September is National Service Dog Month

February 20, 2016
Dogs have brought humans the gift of companionship, loyalty, and happiness for many years.

There are many dogs that have been specifically trained to serve as guide dogs, alert dogs, service dogs and assistance dogs. These dogs can ultimately help their human companion with performing daily tasks, overcoming difficult situations or health related problems, and even try new things that they couldn’t do before! This is why it is important to give recognition to these hard working service dogs that devote their entire purpose in life to helping humans.

National Dog Service Month was created back in 2008 by the founder of Natural Balance Pet Foods, Dick Van Patten. Mr. Van Patten established this month to celebrating these hard working dogs by fundraising for service dog training schools. More specifically, the fundraising was aimed towards the training schools for guide dogs for the blind. However, this fundraising and celebration has expanded to reach out to military working dogs as well as service dogs that help U.S. veterans with the side effects of PTSD.

Please join us in thanking and supporting all of the service dogs throughout the United States as well as out in the rest of the world. National Dog Service Month is a very important month that helps in celebrating and showing our appreciation and gratitude towards all of the hard working service dogs. Local service animal training groups or organizations can always benefit from volunteers as well as donations. Thank you to each and every service dog!
